How our latest service came to be — Designers for Hire

If you’re a learning manager who feels like their team is stretched too thin with the workload, but you don’t have the budget to hire extra help…

Or specialised skills are missing in your team but you still want to launch effective outcomes…

Then I have a story for you:

Back in 2022, a client came to us with a unique request:

"Can you find someone with your skills to work with my team for 6 months?”

As the owner of an eLearning design agency, my first thought was:

“Why not hire an agency?”

To which they replied:

“Because we want someone dedicated full-time to us and who operates as a member of my team. I want creative direction but need someone with the right design skills.”

It wasn’t something I had ever done before, but I understood what it takes to create quality learning experiences because I do it every day. Plus, I had a network of designers looking for freelance work, so I figured it was a great way of helping two people at once.

What started as a six-month contract turned into a two-year collaboration. It was a great success, but we assumed it was an exception. That was until last year when the same client requested another designer, this time for a more senior role.

That’s when it clicked:

Maybe the need for this kind of service was bigger than we realised.

We started talking to more clients and it turned out extra help is needed... but sometimes full-time hires or agencies aren't an option due to:

  • Hiring freezes block full-time roles.

  • Constrained budgets.

  • Workload swings between burnout and quiet periods.

  • Not enough consistent work for a full-time hire.

  • Missing critical design skills.

  • Hiring takes too much time away from core responsibilities.

Sound familiar?

That’s why we are officially launching a new service: Designers For Hire.

This service allows us to find, vet, and hire exceptional learning designers to work as part of your team — just as if we were hiring for our own. It’s flexible, efficient, and tailored to your specific needs.

So, if you know a team that could use a designer — or a designer looking for their next opportunity — let’s talk!
